Coaching is not therapy
I’m a personal development coach and a certified NLP practitioner. I’m not a therapist, a psychologist, or a medical professional, and coaching isn’t psychological or medical treatment.
The difference is mostly direction. Therapy tends to work backward, into what happened and why. Coaching works forward, from where you are now toward where you want to get to. Both have their place, and they aren’t substitutes for one another.
If what you need is treatment for a mental health condition, coaching isn’t it. I’d rather tell you that than take you on.
What coaching can and can’t promise
Results vary from person to person, and I can’t guarantee an outcome. Anyone who guarantees one is selling you something.
What I can describe is the process. We’ll look at your patterns, the language you use about yourself, and the beliefs sitting underneath both, and you’ll leave with tools you can use on your own. What you do with them is up to you. The decisions stay yours the whole way through, and so do the results.
Responsibility
When you work with me, you’re taking responsibility for your own choices and what follows from them. Nothing discussed in a session is advice you’re required to act on. I’m not liable for actions you take, or outcomes that follow, whether directly or indirectly, from anything covered in coaching.
If you’re in crisis
This isn’t a crisis service. I’m not a suicide prevention line, a mental health emergency service, or a medical service of any kind.
If you’re thinking about suicide, or you’re in immediate danger, please reach out to someone who can help right now. In Canada, the 9-8-8 Suicide Crisis Helpline is open 24 hours a day, every day. You can call or text 988. If it’s an emergency, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department.
Coaching can come later. It’ll still be here.
About this page
This is a general notice about how I work and what coaching is. It isn’t a contract. If we do work together, you’ll get a coaching agreement covering this ground in more detail before anything starts.
